EDIT: 2011-12-24 Latest info
If you want to participate in testing - now there is install script. It does full backup before install. Current version is .... It is tested with fw 3.03.11 and 3.03.32.
This time, I started install.sh using lgmod webui. (rs232 connection is needed only for first install). Here you can see the result: http://pastebin.com/Yi2XB6iX
(Do not be afraid, it works... just buy one rs232 cable... and Saturn7 TV :) )
Latest LGMOD: version 1.0.11 alpha 4 ("works more than less ")
Install (root,lginit): http://rghost.net/private/35574376/15a0 ... 61a559fc34 or http://www.mediafire.com/?mve544ogbah8rqx
Optional - extroot: http://rghost.net/private/34135841/b0e3 ... bc9e59718c or http://www.mediafire.com/?z6r6rktte6c6rcg
old - alpha3: http://rghost.net/private/34306381/8451 ... 27358ee216 ; alpha2: http://rghost.net/private/32896841/3d6e ... 5b324495ed ; http://rghost.net/private/32896551/67bd ... ef401fc040
2011-12-24: modprobe fixed (modules.dep file); small fixes in webui 'Drives' page; support for some '-UA' and '-UB' TV models/FW

Few notes:
1) changelog.txt updated - I hope, it is better now.
Note: extroot archive is (was) optional but also some modules were moved there. Another way: copy needed modules in directory "/mnt/lg/user/modules/" (modules needed for network shared folders will be loaded automatically)
Note: careful with extroot.sh script - maybe you do not want to format 'sda1' partition - FAT.

2) Install script from LGMOD 1.0.10 maybe did NOT backup all 25 partitions. Please check.

3.1) With newest FW versions (after Nov-2011), if you see error msg like: "ERROR(28): md5 mismatch: /mnt/lg/lginit/lginit" - then you could continue and try again with "lginit=mtd4_lginitZ.sqfs". (It will write image without "lginit" binary file. Your FW have different/unknown file... anyway you already have backup and that binary is almost never used).
3.2) If you installed older LGMOD and there was error message "wrong lginit md5sum" (just few rare cases!!), please run install with "lginit=mtd4_lginitB.sqfs" (letter 'B', default is 'A').
Example:

Code: Select all

install.sh lginit=mtd4_lginitZ.sqfs install

Please see the wiki for more information or details on the steps.

1. Turn on your TV and press "Menu" or "Home" which ever your have on your remote then press the Red button (Customer Support) and select "Product / Service Info" Write down your Model Number and Current Software Version.

2. Check to see if your TV is supported on the Supported devices chart. Write down your Platform type (Saturn 4 , Saturn 6 ,Saturn 7 , Broadcom BCM3549/BCM3556 , or Broadcom BCM35230) and Custom Firmware Version for your TV ( LGMOD , LGMOD_S7 , OpenLGTV_BCM )

Note: For Saturn 7,Some North American Models have been tested and working with LGMOD_S7 . Specifically '-UA' and '-UB' TV models/FW.

3.We need to make sure you will be able to connect to your PC to your TV via the RS-232C cable.

Check to see if your computer has a Serial Communications port. It should look like this:Image

If it does then get yourself a RS323 Null Modem Cable otherwise If it does not you will require a USBtoSerial cable. I got one from ebay.

4. In most cases LG has disabled access to the bootloader and debug by default. The debug status is an option on your tv that enables/disables access to bootloader and debug menu and resides in IN_START service menu of your TV.

Image

To get into the IN_START service menu of your TV you have a couple of options.

a) Use a All for One /Radio Shack Universal Remote

b) Use a Logitech Harmony Remote

c) A LIRC compatible device

d) A Symbian Phone

e) Windows Mobile Phone

f) Play Station Portable (PSP-1000)

After you have decided which method is best for you and have entered the IN_START service menu on your TV use you LG TV remote to go to 4. System 1 then go to 14.Debug Status then change the seting from Release to Event or Debug.

( I used Event ). You can now

5. Download Putty ( For Windows , For Linux , For OSX )

5. Step up the connection settings in putty Image Then save or select open. A black terminal window will open.

Note: Baud rate: 9600 bps (debug mode), 115200 bps (bootloader mode and debug mode on recent firmwares)

NOTE: This guide or steps are still being worked on. Sorry i will finish when i can. Much is from the WIKI

For netcast (7cast) read here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=456#p3045 - steps from X-TraxxX (...and check/read few post below)

lgmod S7 1.0.9: http://rghost.net/15724931
changes: info file, nvram backup, cramfs magic, (trying to) detect if RELEASE crash, hosts, timezone, LGMOD boot msgs are visible with 'dmesg', swf files (picasa works nice!)

picasa in Saturn7: http://imagebin.org/164306 ; http://imagebin.org/164307
http://imagebin.org/164308 ; http://imagebin.org/164309 ; http://imagebin.org/164310

About swf files (picasa):
1. extract to usb (for example in directory "SWF")
picasa: http://rghost.net/15529461 ; http://rghost.net/15441471
games: http://rghost.net/15516171 ; http://rghost.net/15516331 ; http://rghost.net/15516421 ; http://rghost.net/15516491
more: http://rghost.net/15515751 ; http://rghost.net/15515901 ; http://rghost.net/15516041

2. add to auto_start (or run in webui):
/mnt/usb1/Drive1/SWF/swf.sh 1

3. to see new labels ("Applications 1", "Picasa") you have to change language to "English" (edit2: new)
4. using TV remote: press "menu" then "green" for emanual

note: It is not perfect - first version with custom swf files. Changes are easy - edit xml files. Contributions of custom widgets are very welcome.

edit: link changed to 1.0.9; edit2: link replaced (minor problem)
edit: for 7cast - read below!!!
EDIT: This is old. Read first page, second post.

Here is another (better) approach for netcast in S7: http://rghost.net/16577771
Games are not in in that archive, they have to be in "contents/game"

After script you need to run: killall stagecraft
Then, try to start "emanual".

There are lot of possibilities with swf files.

Enjoy:

EDIT: included script is not needed with last LGMOD version. Read changelog.txt file.

I trying to mount nfs share with LGMOD_S7 and get "Protocol not supported". Then I use modules sunrpc.ko, lockd.ko, nfs.ko from this archive (IXBT) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4098387/saturn7.zip it mounted jast fine. Maybe nfs modules in LGMOD_S7 from Saturn6?
Djmount not working too. When i select folder tv freez and in log "fuse: writing device: Invalid argument".
Thanks!

Same here, try to use NFS version 2 on the server side, it should work. For djmount I got the same, the developers say RELEASE handles filesystem in a wierd way.

LGMOD with OPENRELEASE: version 1.0.10 - ALPHA 4
NFS version 3 (better speed). More changes in changelog file.
http://rghost.net/private/20124951/55b1 ... 10ff6ae6b0

Edit: TV starts as LG default. Use webui to enable OPENRELEASE
Edit: Static IP is fixed. Services and network initialized if RELEASE fail - fixed

A lot of changes in this version. Please, be careful. Please, first of all, check access to uboot.
Enjoy.
